I want to let him go but I don't know how.

Nobody can answer this for you, but sometimes talking to others can help you sort it out for yourself.

The thing to focus on is awareness: awareness of your thoughts, your feelings, your beliefs about yourself and your ex, etc. The more you can notice and recognize about all of that, the more you can work through what's important and what's just "noise".

In addition, it helps to have some basic principles about relationships clear:

- Nobody else can make you whole or happy. That's YOUR job. So if you're clinging to another person hoping they'll make you whole, that's a losing proposition from the outset.

- No relationship can work unless it works for both parties: if you know he's not going to make you an integral part of his life, and you know why, that would be a good sign to quit. One-way relationships do not work.

- Love is more about sharing and creating than it is about your needs. Neediness is something to be resolved over time through personal development, don't lay it on your partner, and don't make relationship choices based primarily on neediness.

I do believe that you’ve got it as it is. Another thing I would add is that time will do its job. Healing will come and the process will end up being nothing more than a mere memory. One, that (again) with time you’ll cherish. And that, as they say, is that.
